Transformative Education

Parami’s education mission is closely tied to broader societal changes. The Parami Liberal Arts and Sciences Fund also supports transformative educational programs that foster inspirational leadership, interdisciplinary thinking, and a compassionate service mindset. The Fund supports various global and local student opportunities to promote responsible leadership and global citizenship and foster social change.

The Rising Generation Summer Internships in the US

In addition to formal undergraduate programs, the Fund also supports synchronous and asynchronous massive online programs that facilitate continuing education (lifelong learning programs) and higher education access. Below are some of the courses that have been offered for free or for a nominal fee for learners in Myanmar and the global south.

Participating Internship Organizations

In the summer of 2024, 9 internship organizations working on a variety of international and thematic issues hosted students from Myanmar, including Accion International, US-ASEAN Business Council, C4ADS, and East-West Center.

Host Families

The program’s interns stay with their US host families during the 8-week summer internship period, which promotes their cultural understanding of the US, contributes to a deeper understanding of Myanmar, and amplifies Myanmar youth’s voices among US communities.

Testimonials

The internship in Washington, DC, was a life-changing experience and the proudest moment of my life. C4ADS taught me the essential skills to investigate bad actors, with illicit business ties to the Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise, which contribute to the Myanmar junta's atrocities. Without this internship, I wouldn’t be able to contribute to Myanmar’s democratic resistance movement.

This internship experience has a profound and transformative impact on my life, fostering my deep sense of determination and commitment to contribute meaningfully to my country. Not only strengthening my confidence, but also empowering me to face challenges through the belief in the power of positive change.

Ei Mon was so exceptional in her work that our other summer intern noted multiple times that “Sometimes I would ask her to help me with a task, and she would tell me that she’d already completed it.” That is, she regularly anticipated the work that needed to be done and then performed the work with excellence.

Naing Min Khant's efforts to build new partnerships for C4ADS and contribute to the Chiang Mai roundtable far exceeded the expectations we have for interns. He truly revitalized our Myanmar portfolio and we are immensely grateful....C4ADS was very fortunate to be one of the hosting organizations this year, and we hope to continue the partnership in the future.

Exchange Programs

To supplement online education programs, several short-term student exchange programs are organized in partnership with overseas institutions. These international opportunities allow students to gain global perspectives and learn about diverse cultures while enabling deeper reflection and understanding of their communities from different perspectives. They also enhance the student’s academic learning while cultivating critical thinking, adaptability, and cross-cultural communication skills—essential competencies to tackle complex global and local issues.

Service Learning

We proudly support service learning at Parami University, integrating community service with academic study to foster a strong sense of civic responsibility and social awareness. By participating in service learning projects, students contribute to their communities’ well-being while gaining insights into the social, economic, and cultural issues they study. This approach ensures that students are not only well-educated but also compassionate and socially engaged, ready to make a positive impact on the world.
